Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, General Industrial and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which rose 3.42% or 133.00 points to trade at 4028.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) added 3.09% or 42.00 points to end at 1401.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 2.87% or 36.00 points to 1289.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which fell 7.80% or 163.00 points to trade at 1926.00 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 4.39% or 25.00 points to end at 544.50 and Provident Financial (LON:PFG) was down 4.30% or 36.00 points to 800.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1034 to 915 and 483 ended unchanged.
Shares in Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) rose to all time highs; up 3.09% or 42.00 to 1401.00.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.29% or 3.78 to $1290.02 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $50.95 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.30% or 0.17 to trade at $56.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.3209, while EUR/GBP rose 0.30% to 0.8970.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 92.89.
