Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Aerospace & Defense and Financial Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.02%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which rose 4.09% or 151.00 points to trade at 3842.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) added 1.36% or 15.00 points to end at 1121.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 1.33% or 2.6000 points to 197.4500 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which fell 3.65% or 18.80 points to trade at 495.70 at the close. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) declined 2.90% or 12.10 points to end at 405.50 and Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LON:ADN) was down 2.50% or 7.30 points to 285.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1192 to 888 and 464 ended unchanged.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.69% or 8.70 to $1245.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.53% or 0.22 to hit $41.36 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.32% or 0.13 to trade at $41.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.68% to 1.4386, while EUR/GBP rose 0.30% to 0.7811.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 95.39.
