Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Aerospace & Defense, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.01%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 2.25% or 9.90 points to trade at 449.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 1.85% or 63.00 points to end at 3475.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 1.63% or 2.40 points to 149.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which fell 2.75% or 24.00 points to trade at 850.20 at the close. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) declined 2.05% or 43.00 points to end at 2055.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was down 2.04% or 18.20 points to 874.80.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1182 to 969 and 213 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.32% or 4.55 to $1414.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.80% or 1.62 to hit $59.45 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.16% or 1.39 to trade at $65.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.02% to 1.2699, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8961.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 95.632.
