Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Financial Services and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.93%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML), which rose 5.43% or 12.10 points to trade at 234.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Provident Financial (LON:PFG) added 4.87% or 34.00 points to end at 732.00 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) was up 4.64% or 23.60 points to 532.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which fell 3.78% or 244.00 points to trade at 6214.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.76% or 35.50 points to end at 1249.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was down 1.45% or 13.20 points to 899.40.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1629 to 428 and 108 ended unchanged.
Shares in Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.78% or 244.00 to 6214.00. Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.76% or 35.50 to 1249.50. Shares in Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) rose to 52-week highs; rising 4.64% or 23.60 to 532.00.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.65% or 8.70 to $1320.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.38% or 1.51 to hit $61.88 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.78% or 1.19 to trade at $65.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.59% to 1.3867, while EUR/GBP fell 0.20% to 0.8854.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 90.11.
