Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, General Industrial and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 11.84% or 217.00 points to trade at 2050.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 5.97% or 43.60 points to end at 773.60 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 5.41% or 44.60 points to 869.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which fell 5.88% or 10.84 points to trade at 173.56 at the close. Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) declined 2.64% or 8.10 points to end at 298.80 and Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) was down 1.76% or 4.60 points to 256.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1452 to 665 and 195 ended unchanged.
Shares in BT Group PLC (LON:BT) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.88% or 10.84 to 173.56. Shares in Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) fell to 3-years lows; down 2.64% or 8.10 to 298.80.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.71% or 10.75 to $1508.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.25% or 1.15 to hit $52.24 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.97% or 1.11 to trade at $57.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.2145, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.9227.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 97.343.
