Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Oil & Gas Producers and Tobacco sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.36% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 8.35% or 53.60 points to trade at 695.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 6.17% or 161.50 points to end at 2780.00 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was up 3.92% or 21.60 points to 572.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which fell 6.08% or 114.50 points to trade at 1770.00 at the close. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) declined 4.77% or 75.50 points to end at 1508.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was down 1.54% or 13.00 points to 830.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1110 to 759 and 391 ended unchanged.
Shares in BP PLC (LON:BP) rose to 5-year highs; up 3.92% or 21.60 to 572.00.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1313.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.10% or 2.14 to hit $71.20 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.07% or 2.30 to trade at $77.15 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.10% to 1.3561, while EUR/GBP fell 0.24% to 0.8740.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 92.92.
