Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Tobacco, Automobiles & Parts and General Industrial sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.27%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 5.68% or 135.00 points to trade at 2510.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) added 4.08% or 4.60 points to end at 117.35 and Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) was up 3.52% or 12.70 points to 373.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which fell 13.27% or 39.90 points to trade at 260.80 at the close. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 6.26% or 112.50 points to end at 1684.50 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was down 2.09% or 25.00 points to 1169.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1288 to 811 and 295 ended unchanged.
Shares in Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) fell to all time lows; losing 13.27% or 39.90 to 260.80.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.37% or 4.85 to $1307.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.65% or 1.38 to hit $53.37 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.41% or 1.44 to trade at $61.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.06% to 1.3154, while EUR/GBP rose 0.06% to 0.8686.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 95.472.
