Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Food & Drug Retailers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.19%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 6.09% or 119.50 points to trade at 2081.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 4.74% or 40.80 points to end at 900.80 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 3.74% or 8.50 points to 235.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which fell 2.48% or 48.40 points to trade at 1903.00 at the close. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) declined 1.53% or 1.34 points to end at 86.02 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was down 1.52% or 71.00 points to 4599.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1385 to 796 and 223 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.59% or 7.90 to $1350.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 3.28% or 1.71 to hit $53.88 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.72% or 1.05 to trade at $61.99 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.15% to 1.2551, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8923.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 97.137.
