Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Industrial Metals & Mining and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.16% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 4.58% or 88.50 points to trade at 2,020.00 at the close. Meanwhile, HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 4.00% or 27.10 points to end at 704.00 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICGIN) was up 3.49% or 74.00 points to 2,196.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SWR), which fell 4.40% or 159.00 points to trade at 3,451.00 at the close. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) declined 2.95% or 238.00 points to end at 7,840.00 and GSK plc (LON:GSK) was down 1.98% or 30.50 points to 1,512.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1157 to 656 and 667 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.69% or 17.00 to $2,468.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.55% or 2.65 to hit $77.38 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.04% or 2.37 to trade at $80.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 103.96.
