Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Financial Services and Industrial Engineering sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 6.27% or 6.85 points to trade at 116.05 at the close. Meanwhile, The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH) added 5.71% or 189.00 points to end at 3500.00 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 5.02% or 83.50 points to 1747.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which fell 7.22% or 21.40 points to trade at 275.00 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 5.96% or 9.00 points to end at 142.00 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was down 1.08% or 50.00 points to 4570.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1447 to 643 and 255 ended unchanged.
Shares in Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.96% or 9.00 to 142.00.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.27% or 3.40 to $1250.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.77% or 0.40 to hit $52.05 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.61 to trade at $60.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.31% to 1.2653, while EUR/GBP fell 0.90% to 0.8981.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 97.007.
