Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Forestry & Paper and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.06%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 4.32% or 4.50 points to trade at 108.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 3.96% or 12.70 points to end at 333.10 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) was up 3.78% or 54.8 points to 1503.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which fell 2.72% or 6.00 points to trade at 214.40 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 2.58% or 178.00 points to end at 6708.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was down 2.56% or 48.50 points to 1843.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1160 to 911 and 281 ended unchanged.
Shares in Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) fell to 5-year lows; down 2.72% or 6.00 to 214.40.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.40% or 5.00 to $1258.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.92% or 1.36 to hit $47.96 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.28% or 1.28 to trade at $57.54 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.21% to 1.2666, while EUR/GBP rose 0.36% to 0.9021.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 96.093.
