Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Tobacco sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.00%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB), which rose 4.21% or 19.40 points to trade at 480.00 at the close. Meanwhile, British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) added 3.38% or 98.50 points to end at 3014.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 3.37% or 24.20 points to 743.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which fell 3.73% or 7.60 points to trade at 195.90 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 1.34% or 3.00 points to end at 220.50 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was down 1.04% or 60.00 points to 5716.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1479 to 689 and 235 ended unchanged.
Shares in Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) fell to 5-year lows; falling 1.34% or 3.00 to 220.50.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.36% or 4.85 to $1347.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.83% or 0.96 to hit $53.55 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 1.16 to trade at $62.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.42% to 1.2752, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8894.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 96.458.
