Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Food & Drug Retailers and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.95% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 4.96% or 11.10 points to trade at 234.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) added 3.12% or 146.00 points to end at 4822.00 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 2.90% or 49.80 points to 1768.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which fell 2.16% or 12.60 points to trade at 571.20 at the close. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) declined 1.51% or 90.00 points to end at 5855.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was down 1.21% or 62.00 points to 5052.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1214 to 875 and 343 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.13% or 1.65 to $1301.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.95% or 0.56 to hit $59.38 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.36 to trade at $67.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.3233, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.8561.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 96.042.
