Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Aerospace & Defense and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.85%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 6.54% or 54.20 points to trade at 882.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) added 4.06% or 7.80 points to end at 200.10 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 2.99% or 4.45 points to 153.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which fell 2.81% or 79.00 points to trade at 2727.00 at the close. Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) declined 2.81% or 116.50 points to end at 4033.50 and Relx PLC (LON:REL) was down 2.75% or 45.50 points to 1609.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1131 to 868 and 352 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.46% or 6.00 to $1307.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.08% or 0.05 to hit $66.69 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.67 to trade at $76.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.3319, while EUR/GBP fell 0.98% to 0.8730.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.03% at 94.52.
