Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Life Insurance/Assurance and Industrial Transportation sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.81% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 3.89% or 4.80 points to trade at 128.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 3.67% or 64.50 points to end at 1822.00 and Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) was up 3.17% or 10.20 points to 331.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which fell 7.14% or 580.00 points to trade at 7540.00 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.37% or 40.00 points to end at 1650.00 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) was down 0.75% or 2.90 points to 382.10.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1109 to 874 and 330 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 0.80 to $1217.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.90% or 2.70 to hit $66.47 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.51% or 2.62 to trade at $72.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.2874, while EUR/GBP rose 0.50% to 0.9007.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 95.06.
