Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.75%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa), which rose 2.65% or 67.50 points to trade at 2619.50 at the close. Meanwhile, BP PLC (LON:BP) added 2.56% or 14.30 points to end at 573.50 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) was up 2.28% or 60.00 points to 2687.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which fell 2.84% or 18.60 points to trade at 636.40 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 2.16% or 4.00 points to end at 181.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was down 1.39% or 3.90 points to 276.10.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1042 to 994 and 303 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.24% or 3.10 to $1302.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.47% or 1.65 to hit $68.38 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.70% or 2.04 to trade at $77.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.25% to 1.3285, while EUR/GBP rose 0.76% to 0.8773.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 94.09.
