Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Insurance, Mining and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.69% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which rose 8.59% or 53.00 points to trade at 670.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 4.23% or 42.20 points to end at 1039.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 4.07% or 77.50 points to 1981.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK), which fell 10.78% or 144.50 points to trade at 1196.00 at the close. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) declined 4.04% or 12.50 points to end at 296.70 and Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) was down 2.76% or 37.50 points to 1320.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1024 to 960 and 307 ended unchanged.
Shares in Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) fell to 5-year lows; falling 10.78% or 144.50 to 1196.00.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.21% or 2.60 to $1223.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.48% or 1.04 to hit $69.09 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.66 to trade at $74.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.3129, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.8914.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 94.27.
