Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Travel & Leisure sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.67%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.84% or 22.50 points to trade at 608.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Entain PLC (LON:ENT) added 3.16% or 20.20 points to end at 660.20 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 2.95% or 5.10 points to 178.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE), which fell 2.04% or 21.50 points to trade at 1,033.00 at the close. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 1.86% or 13.80 points to end at 727.20 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was down 1.24% or 6.10 points to 485.10.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1173 to 615 and 704 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.77% or 18.25 to $2,386.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.25% or 1.02 to hit $82.43 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.94% or 0.80 to trade at $85.46 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.34% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 104.73.
