Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Transportation and Travel & Leisure sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.65%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which rose 4.03% or 56.50 points to trade at 1,460.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 3.31% or 3.85 points to end at 120.15 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) was up 2.96% or 11.00 points to 382.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV), which fell 1.97% or 19.00 points to trade at 944.50 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 0.56% or 9.00 points to end at 1,599.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was down 0.47% or 0.75 points to 159.85.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1118 to 655 and 683 ended unchanged.
Shares in Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) rose to 5-year highs; rising 2.96% or 11.00 to 382.90.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 1.85 to $2,633.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.38% or 0.28 to hit $73.29 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.49 to trade at $76.69 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.07% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 102.59.
