Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Tobacco, Electrical and Construction & Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR), which rose 3.34% or 136.50 points to trade at 4225.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Relx PLC (LON:REL) added 2.91% or 49.00 points to end at 1733.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 2.53% or 122.50 points to 4966.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which fell 7.41% or 14.60 points to trade at 182.40 at the close. GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) declined 3.43% or 49.0 points to end at 1380.0 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was down 2.06% or 74.00 points to 3523.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1135 to 835 and 398 ended unchanged.
Shares in Relx PLC (LON:REL) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.91% or 49.00 to 1733.00. Shares in GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.43% or 49.0 to 1380.0. Shares in Shire PLC (LON:SHP) fell to 52-week lows; losing 2.06% or 74.00 to 3523.00.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.37% or 4.76 to $1274.24 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.50% or 0.26 to hit $52.44 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.34% or 0.20 to trade at $58.64 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.73% to 1.3167, while EUR/GBP fell 0.30% to 0.8881.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.82% at 94.30.
