Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Tobacco, Industrial Transportation and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.54% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL), which rose 3.43% or 15.40 points to trade at 463.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.04% or 43.50 points to end at 1473.50 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 3.03% or 10.90 points to 370.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aviva PLC (LON:AV), which fell 1.72% or 8.60 points to trade at 490.30 at the close. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 1.35% or 19.00 points to end at 1384.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was down 1.14% or 2.20 points to 190.15.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1112 to 846 and 430 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 3.04% or 43.50 to 1473.50.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.09% or 1.16 to $1275.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.92% or 0.96 to hit $50.94 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 1.32 to trade at $57.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.85% to 1.3130, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.8915.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 93.75.
