Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Mining and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were SKY PLC (LON:SKYB), which rose 2.83% or 28.00 points to trade at 1018.00 at the close. Meanwhile, WPP PLC (LON:WPP) added 2.58% or 35.00 points to end at 1389.00 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 2.42% or 43.00 points to 1818.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which fell 2.28% or 99.00 points to trade at 4246.00 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 2.01% or 12.50 points to end at 609.00 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) was down 1.78% or 5.50 points to 303.80.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1113 to 1042 and 122 ended unchanged.
Shares in SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.83% or 28.00 to 1018.00.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.05% or 0.60 to $1257.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.35% or 0.20 to hit $57.24 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.09 to trade at $63.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.91% to 1.3310, while EUR/GBP rose 0.88% to 0.8847.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 93.84.
