Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 3.13% or 132.00 points to trade at 4347.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 3.00% or 42.50 points to end at 1458.50 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 2.51% or 40.20 points to 1643.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which fell 5.03% or 31.20 points to trade at 589.00 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 3.52% or 24.60 points to end at 673.20 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) was down 3.05% or 6.10 points to 193.80.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1105 to 868 and 334 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.52% or 6.60 to $1262.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 3.22% or 2.19 to hit $70.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.90% or 1.42 to trade at $75.97 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.32% to 1.3236, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.8813.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 94.23.
