Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Banking and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which rose 4.74% or 8.50 points to trade at 187.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) added 3.86% or 22.50 points to end at 606.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 3.44% or 9.00 points to 270.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which fell 2.34% or 175.00 points to trade at 7300.00 at the close. National Grid PLC (LON:NG) declined 1.90% or 17.90 points to end at 925.30 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was down 1.62% or 23.00 points to 1399.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1078 to 878 and 429 ended unchanged.
Shares in Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.44% or 9.00 to 270.80.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.93% or 12.12 to $1289.58 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.40% or 0.21 to hit $52.09 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.67% or 0.39 to trade at $57.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.3401, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.8770.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 93.16.
