Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Banking and Chemicals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.45%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 5.24% or 20.15 points to trade at 404.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.27% or 56.80 points to end at 1796.60 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 2.89% or 17.00 points to 605.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which fell 5.07% or 9.15 points to trade at 171.25 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 3.61% or 35.60 points to end at 950.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was down 2.62% or 80.50 points to 2992.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1034 to 916 and 143 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) rose to 3-years highs; rising 3.27% or 56.80 to 1796.60. Shares in Shire PLC (LON:SHP) fell to 3-years lows; down 2.62% or 80.50 to 2992.00.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.06% or 0.80 to $1330.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.19% or 0.12 to hit $61.67 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.06 to trade at $65.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.3947, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.8829.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 89.83.
