Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Tobacco and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 13.16% or 87.00 points to trade at 748.00 at the close. Meanwhile, CRH PLC (LON:CRH) added 3.83% or 103.00 points to end at 2793.00 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) was up 2.96% or 42.00 points to 1462.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which fell 23.16% or 54.50 points to trade at 180.80 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 4.41% or 56.00 points to end at 1214.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was down 2.60% or 99.00 points to 3702.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1006 to 913 and 439 ended unchanged.
Shares in Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) fell to 3-years lows; down 23.16% or 54.50 to 180.80.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.14% or 1.76 to $1292.94 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.42% or 1.17 to hit $47.24 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.52% or 0.80 to trade at $51.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.01% to 1.2800, while EUR/GBP fell 0.04% to 0.9222.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 93.18.
