Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Tobacco and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which rose 3.21% or 84.00 points to trade at 2705.00 at the close. Meanwhile, SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) added 3.14% or 42.00 points to end at 1380.00 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 2.71% or 5.65 points to 214.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH), which fell 5.90% or 244.00 points to trade at 3893.00 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 3.17% or 6.25 points to end at 190.75 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) was down 2.67% or 13.70 points to 498.70.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1112 to 889 and 323 ended unchanged.
Shares in SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 3.14% or 42.00 to 1380.00.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.22% or 2.80 to $1275.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.45% or 0.94 to hit $65.84 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.08 to trade at $75.00 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.3203, while EUR/GBP fell 0.22% to 0.8777.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 94.66.
