Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, General Retailers and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK), which rose 3.47% or 49.50 points to trade at 1475.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 3.30% or 143.50 points to end at 4492.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 3.26% or 18.00 points to 569.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which fell 2.04% or 13.40 points to trade at 642.60 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 1.93% or 15.20 points to end at 771.20 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) was down 1.92% or 51.50 points to 2632.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1071 to 857 and 306 ended unchanged.
Shares in Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 3.30% or 143.50 to 4492.00.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.09% or 1.20 to $1303.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.34% or 0.88 to hit $64.64 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.60% or 0.45 to trade at $74.93 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.3413, while EUR/GBP rose 0.35% to 0.8778.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 93.56.
