Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Food & Drug Retailers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which rose 3.47% or 11.40 points to trade at 340.00 at the close. Meanwhile, International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 2.62% or 15.50 points to end at 606.50 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) was up 2.57% or 6.10 points to 243.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which fell 3.60% or 43.00 points to trade at 1150.00 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 2.20% or 29.00 points to end at 1287.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was down 1.61% or 78.00 points to 4760.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1004 to 909 and 422 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.15% or 2.02 to $1312.82 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.54% or 0.27 to hit $50.08 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.72% or 0.40 to trade at $55.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.3518, while EUR/GBP rose 0.07% to 0.8863.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 91.65.
