Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Industrial Metals & Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.31%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP), which rose 2.61% or 5.50 points to trade at 216.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) added 2.29% or 5.90 points to end at 263.50 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 2.28% or 35.00 points to 1568.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which fell 3.65% or 5.80 points to trade at 152.90 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 3.27% or 6.15 points to end at 182.00 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) was down 2.88% or 220.00 points to 7425.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 991 to 930 and 151 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.46% or 6.10 to $1311.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.19% or 1.36 to hit $63.49 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.95% or 1.29 to trade at $67.34 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.4002, while EUR/GBP fell 0.43% to 0.8758.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 89.89.
