Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Software & Computer Services and Support Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO), which rose 3.88% or 49.50 points to trade at 1323.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.59% or 58.80 points to end at 1694.80 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 2.98% or 28.60 points to 988.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Old Mutual PLC (LON:OMU), which fell 1.84% or 2.82 points to trade at 150.40 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 1.54% or 68.00 points to end at 4347.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was down 1.21% or 47.00 points to 3830.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1276 to 706 and 328 ended unchanged.
Shares in Old Mutual PLC (LON:OMU) fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.84% or 2.82 to 150.40. Shares in Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 2.98% or 28.60 to 988.20.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.28% or 3.50 to $1254.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.71% or 0.52 to hit $73.97 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 1.46 to trade at $79.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.93% to 1.3199, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.8848.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 94.28.
