Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Automobiles & Parts and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.23%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which rose 3.84% or 19.20 points to trade at 519.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 2.65% or 22.40 points to end at 866.60 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 2.27% or 3.66 points to 164.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which fell 2.06% or 15.60 points to trade at 740.60 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 2.02% or 98.00 points to end at 4754.00 and Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) was down 1.89% or 16.20 points to 842.40.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1205 to 872 and 341 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) fell to 3-years lows; falling 2.06% or 15.60 to 740.60.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.58% or 7.45 to $1281.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.39% or 0.25 to hit $63.55 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.20 to trade at $71.83 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.2935, while EUR/GBP rose 0.18% to 0.8642.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.602.
