Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Mining and Software & Computer Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which rose 6.31% or 490.00 points to trade at 8250.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 6.19% or 78.50 points to end at 1347.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 4.98% or 89.80 points to 1892.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which fell 5.05% or 7.50 points to trade at 140.90 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 2.19% or 2.85 points to end at 127.25 and Provident Financial (LON:PFG) was down 1.93% or 12.60 points to 641.80.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1045 to 925 and 312 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 4.98% or 89.80 to 1892.40.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.07% or 0.90 to $1289.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.41% or 0.29 to hit $71.02 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.20 to trade at $78.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.3473, while EUR/GBP fell 0.21% to 0.8747.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 93.38.
