Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Forestry & Paper sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.06%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 2.61% or 35.00 points to trade at 1376.00 at the close. Meanwhile, HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 2.52% or 18.50 points to end at 751.70 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 2.27% or 30.50 points to 1372.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which fell 2.88% or 14.00 points to trade at 472.10 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 2.65% or 106.00 points to end at 3888.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was down 1.80% or 2.60 points to 141.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1178 to 998 and 126 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1247.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.03% or 0.59 to hit $57.95 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.08% or 1.32 to trade at $64.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.29% to 1.3354, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.8835.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 93.77.
