Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Chemicals and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.02% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 5.61% or 7.20 points to trade at 135.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 2.45% or 24.40 points to end at 1022.00 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 2.27% or 47.00 points to 2122.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which fell 4.58% or 11.00 points to trade at 229.00 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 3.94% or 19.90 points to end at 484.90 and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) was down 2.57% or 8.60 points to 325.60.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1029 to 969 and 327 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) fell to 5-year lows; down 3.94% or 19.90 to 484.90. Shares in Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) fell to 52-week lows; losing 2.57% or 8.60 to 325.60.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.02% or 0.30 to $1220.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $66.89 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.08 to trade at $72.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.2861, while EUR/GBP fell 0.26% to 0.8989.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 95.25.
