(Reuters) - The United Auto Workers union said on Friday that members at Stellantis (NYSE:STLA)' Los Angeles parts distribution center voted in favor of authorizing a strike if the carmaker failed to settle grievances with the union over investments in the U.S.

Stellantis did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The vote is the first of what is expected to be several such votes as the union seeks to apply pressure on Stellantis.

UAW President Shawn Fain last month accused Stellantis of breaking its promises and said several of its union local chapters were laying the groundwork for strikes. In a letter last week, Fain urged workers to authorize a strike.

The union's grievances center around the company's product and investment commitments made during the contract negotiations last autumn, which Stellantis has denied failing to honor.
