Investing.com -- Twitter's famous blue bird logo has been changed to an "X," in a massive branding overhaul led by the social media platform's owner Elon Musk and chief executive Linda Yaccarino.
The "X" symbol is now visible on Twitter's website, and was featured on the profiles of both Musk and Yaccarino. A projection of the image was also seen on the company's offices in San Francisco.
"#GoodbyeTwitter" was a trending topic on Twitter, with some users expressing criticism over the change.
Musk previously announced on Sunday that the company will soon "bid adieu" to the Twitter brand and, subsequently, "all the birds."
The billionaire said the bird logo will instead be replaced with the stylized "X". He added that, following the rebranding, tweets will now be called "x's."
The letter points to Musk's larger ambition to transform Twitter from a short-text messaging service into a so-called "everything app" that has features like peer-to-peer payments and e-commerce shopping.
Musk's vision for a revamped Twitter comes as the group grapples with flagging advertising revenues, a heavy debt load, and fresh competition from Meta's Threads. As recently as July 14, Musk admitted that the business is still "net cash flow negative."
