Investing.com - Toyota Motor Corp (T:7203) said it will recall 3.4 million vehicles worldwide for a defect that could impact air bags and seat belts.
The recall covers certain versions of the 2011-2019 Corolla, 2011-2013 Matrix, 2012-2018 Avalon and 2013-2018 Avalon Hybrid, Toyota said on its company website.
The automaker said one of the electronic control components does not have adequate protection against electrical noise in certain crashes.
The company added that most dealer will install a noise filter at no cost to fix the issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been looking into the issue with several automakers, including Toyota, since April of last year.
Hyundai, Kia and Fiat Chrysler previously issued recalls for more than 2.5 million vehicles with the TRW air bag control units in question that might not deploy in crashes.
Toyota’s shares in Japan traded 0.4% to 7,822 yen by 11:30 PM ET (03:30 GMT).
