Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling certain 2022 Model Y electric vehicles after it was determined that the front bumper carrier structure may alter the vehicle's crash detection, causing the front passenger airbag to deploy incorrectly during certain low speed crashes.
Tesla Service will replace the front bumper carrier structure, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 19th.
As this current recall is expected to affect a small number of vehicles, this is still the seventh recall that the electric vehicle giant has issued this year and the first that cannot be addressed using over-the-air software updates.
Tesla is trading down almost 3% to $785.11 mid-day.
