Investing.com – Sri Lanka stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Plantations, Land & Property and Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Colombo, the CSE All-Share lost 0.10% to hit a new 6-months low.
The best performers of the session on the CSE All-Share were George Steuart Finance Ltd (CM:GEOR), which rose 12.84% or 3.30 points to trade at 29.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Waskaduwa Beach Resort PLC (CM:CITW) added 11.36% or 0.50 points to end at 4.90 and Union Assurance PLC (CM:UAL) was up 11.05% or 15.10 points to 151.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kahawatte Plantations PLC (CM:KAHA), which fell 15.12% or 5.70 points to trade at 32.00 at the close. Ceylinco Insurance PLC (CM:CINS) declined 14.43% or 215.00 points to end at 1275.00 and SMB Leasing PLC (CM:SEMB) was down 14.29% or 0.1000 points to 0.6000.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Colombo Stock Exchange by 88 to 70 and 49 ended unchanged.
Shares in SMB Leasing PLC (CM:SEMB) fell to 5-year lows; losing 14.29% or 0.1000 to 0.6000.
Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.23% or 0.12 to $52.45 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.25% or 0.14 to hit $55.61 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.38% or 4.45 to trade at $1166.45 a troy ounce.
GBP/LKR was down 0.11% to 183.595, while USD/LKR fell 0.29% to 149.550.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 102.95.
