A report from TheInformation claimed Wednesday that OpenAI is developing a web search product that could challenge Google and Bing.
The service would be partly powered by Bing, according to the report, which cites someone with knowledge of OpenAI's plans. The search tool is said to be likely to use Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Bing search functionality as a foundation.
OpenAI hasn't officially confirmed the plans, but the company is aiming to expand its knowledge and web browsing abilities, which could open up the possibility for the tool.
The Information suggests the web search product could be combined directly into ChatGPT as a premium feature for paying subscribers, although they add that launching it as a standalone product is also still an option.
