TOKYO, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average lost 0.1 percent on Wednesday after commodity prices crumbled a day earlier but losses for the stock average are likely to be limited with strong U.S. economic data lending support.
The benchmark Nikkei <.N225> was down 8.34 points at 10,389.76.
But the broader Topix index <.TOPX> was up 0.1 percent at 912.32. (Reporting by Ayai Tomisawa; Editing by Edwina Gibbs)
