TOKYO, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average surged well over 2 percent on Wednesday, reversing earlier losses as the yen tumbled further from a 15-year high against the dollar after the authorities intervened in the currency market for the first time in six years.
The benchmark Nikkei gained 2.7 percent to 9,549.67, after dropping as low as 9,199.08. The broader Topix rose 2.1 percent to 852.43.
The dollar traded at 84.81 yen, surging from a 15-year low of 82.87 hit on trading platform EBS, after Japan intervened. (Reporting by Shinichi Saoshiro; Editing by Edmund Klamann)
