TOKYO, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average hit a 7-½ month high on Tuesday as global shares resumed their rally on stronger manufacturing data, which also boosted the dollar against the yen, supporting Japanese exporters.
The benchmark Nikkei was up 1.7 percent or 169.86 points at 10,399.66, reaching its highest level since May 14.
The broader Topix index gained 1.5 percent to 912.60. (Reporting by Antoni Slodkowski; Editing by Edwina Gibbs)
