TOKYO, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average fell 0.1 percent on Friday as the yen stayed high near its 15-year peak against the dollar reached the previous day.
But the index was expected to be trapped in a tight range as investors were reluctant to trade actively before key U.S. payrolls data due later in the day.
The benchmark Nikkei opened down 0.1 percent at 9,675.59, while the broader Topix fell 0.2 percent to 844.46. (Reporting by Chikafumi Hodo)
