TOKYO, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average slid 2 percent on Thursday, hit by a late yen advance, but still booked its best month since March on expectations that the central bank will ease policy further and that the yen's rapid advance could be curbed by more intervention by the authorities.
The benchmark was flat on the quarter, however, sharply lagging other major global indexes.
The benchmark Nikkei shed 2 percent or 190.03 points to 9,369.35, but gained 6.2 percent on the month.
The broader Topix lost 2.1 percent to 829.51. (Reporting by Elaine Lies; Editing by Edmund Klamann)
