OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), have extended their partnership, it was announced Monday.
The company said in a statement that Microsoft has made a multi-year, multi-billion dollar investment in the company, adding to previous investments made in 2019 and 2021.
The investment will allow OpenAI to continue its "independent research and develop AI that is increasingly safe, useful, and powerful."
OpenAI explained that the companies have already worked together to build multiple supercomputing systems powered by Azure, which it uses to train all of its models. They state that Microsoft will increase its investment in these systems to accelerate OpenAI's independent research, with Azure remaining the exclusive cloud provider for all OpenAI workloads across its research, API, and products.
In addition, the AI firm has now partnered with Microsoft to deploy its technology to enable businesses and developers to build on top of GPT, DALL·E, and Codex, while the companies have also worked to build OpenAI's technology into apps like GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Designer.
