Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) is said to be spending billions of dollars on NVIDIA's (NVDA) computer chips as part of the company's AI efforts.
Mark Zuckerberg revealed in an Instagram post Friday that the company is building massive compute infrastructure to support its future roadmap, with their long-term vision to "build general intelligence, open source it responsibly, and make it widely available so everyone can benefit."
"We're bringing our two major AI research efforts (FAIR and GenAI) closer together to support this," he stated.
Meta is currently training its next-gen model Llama 3, with its compute infrastructure expected to include 350,000 H100 graphic cards from Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) by the end of this year. According to CNBC, analysts believe Nvidia is selling the H100 for $25,000 to $30,000.
Zuckerberg added that overall the infrastructure will include almost 600,000 H100 equivalents of compute if you include other GPUs.
He added that the company is "excited" about its progress in building new AI-centric computing devices like Ray Ban Meta smart glasses.
