Investing.com -- Nearly 60% of global respondents plan to switch to generative AI-enabled smartphones by September 2025, according to a survey by Counterpoint Research. The trend is strongest in the U.S., followed by Germany and France.
“Smartphones have been playing a key role in the propagation of Gen AI, with nearly three-fourths of the respondents accessing the technology through their devices, led by Gen Z users,” report said.
Generative AI awareness is highest in North America, with 72% of respondents familiar with the technology. However, Japan recorded the lowest awareness level at 7%. Among Gen AI-aware users, 73% have accessed the technology via smartphones, underscoring the devices’ central role in its adoption.
The survey found that writing assistance is the most popular Gen AI application, followed by image generation and voice assistants. Over two-thirds of respondents expressed willingness to pay more for smartphones equipped with Gen AI features.
“Generative AI has quickly gained traction due to its accessibility and versatility across personal, professional, and educational applications,” said Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint.
Conducted in September 2024, the survey engaged 3,535 respondents across seven countries, exploring awareness, benefits, and purchasing trends related to Gen AI.
