Faisal Sultan, Vice President and Managing Director of Lucid Middle East revealed in an interview Thursday that luxury electric automaker, Lucid Group Inc (NASDAQ:LCID) has begun deliveries of its Air sedan to customers in Saudi Arabia.
Lucid, which is partially owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), currently has a lineup of one vehicle, the Lucid Air luxury sedan. However, there are various versions of the Air available, such as the Lucid Air Dream Edition, Lucid Air Grand Touring, Lucid Touring, Lucid Pure, and an exceptional super-sports variant known as the Lucid Air Sapphire.
Notably, the Lucid Air Sapphire garnered attention following an impressive performance where its prototype convincingly outpaced the Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) Model S Plaid in a drag race.
Sultan noted that he anticipates an influx of Lucid vehicles on the country’s roads, especially considering the demand for the company’s cars in Saudi Arabia. The executive noted that Lucid is poised to start delivering hundreds of Air sedans to customers in the upcoming months.
Lucid’s upcoming Saudi factory, located in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), is expected to start operations in the third or fourth quarter of 2023, Sultan noted. Until then, to meet the demand for the Air, Lucid is expected to ship hundreds of cars every week from its manufacturing facility in Arizona to Saudi Arabia.
Shares of LCID are down 1.26% in afternoon trading on Thursday.
